The Acadiana Arts Council will present the second annual Gulf Brew, a southern beer tasting festival to be held July 19 from 4 – 10 p.m. at Parc International in downtown Lafayette.

Volunteers are needed to sell tickets, beer, food and more. Shifts will be 1.5 to 2 hours each, depending on the number of volunteers that sign up. Volunteers (21 and older) will each receive 1 (one) Taster Ticket good for fifteen 3.5 oz. samples of southern beer, as well as a free t-shirt and free draft beer at the end of their shift. The American Cancer Society’s Reflections of Hope Gala will be held on Saturday, August 23rd at the Lafayette Natural History Museum. Gala guests will enjoy an evening of art & wine for all the right reasons: the fight against cancer. During the event, the American Cancer Society will present its Spirit of Hope Award to members of our community who have made significant contributions in the fight against cancer.

The individuals selected for this year’s award will represent the “spirit” of the American Cancer Society and the dedication of those involved in the fight against cancer. The event will begin at 7:00 p.m. and will include a silent auction, music, great food, and of course, martinis! The Healing House offers support groups and activities for children who have experienced the death of a parent or sibling. For them, it is a safe place to grieve and it is free of charge for their families. Healing House will be hosting its first ever Family Adventure Day on October 18, 2008. Our goal for this special event is to encourage families to spend the day together and support local businesses.
